Iberia is bringing a number of innovative and sustainable solutions to the cleaning and of its aircraft
and equipment to ensure the maximum hygiene on board and to prevent Covid-19 infections.

  • The airline’s long-term service provider Multiservicios Aeroportuarios is using more efficient electrostatic pistol sin the short- and medium-haul fleet.
  • Spanish start-up AirlineLoop has designed more flexible and sustainable equipment for sanitising aircraft cabins.
  • Reusable and ecological cleaning cloths and mops made of recyclable bamboo fibre which blocks the proliferation of bacteria and microorganisms.

In the sanitising of its short- and medium-haul fleet between 13:00h and 17:00h every day in Madrid, Iberia’s service provider Multiservicios Aeroportuarios (MASA) has deployed new electrostatic pistols that shoot a fine powder that kills the Covid-19 virus on contact, making the sanitising both faster and more uniform, while reaching the most inaccessible parts of armrests, headrests, folding trays, seat folds, hand luggage compartments, toilets, etc. between flights.

For the daily deep-cleaning of Iberia aircraft, the Spanish start-up AirlineLoop designed an easy-to-use, reliable, and energy-efficient aircraft cabin disinfection system. All exposed surfaces are sprayed with a disinfecting liquid that dries almost instantly.

Airline Loop, Standard Loop, and Portable Loop are the venture’s three types of equipment which can ensure the disinfection of the hardest to reach areas of toilets, galleys, etc. The small diameter –100μm (micrometers)– nozzle apertures emit drops so tiny that they inundate all nooks and crannies where pathogens might be hidden.

Iberia’s new cleaning and sanitising procedures comply with the international standards set by EASA and IATA, and are certified by Airbus and Boeing. They can use a variety of pulverisable biocides, and are being employed as a supplement to the pulverisers routinely used by Multiservicios Aeroportuarios to clean Iberia Group aircraft in Madrid Airport.

For cleaning by hand Iberia has switched to cleaning cloths and mops made with 100% bamboo fibre which are tougher, more elastic, and totally recyclable. They also block the proliferation of bacteria and microorganisms, as well as bad smells.
